Our vision to transform cycling in Greater Manchester – thanks for making it happen!

Greater Manchester has been awarded £20 million national funding to support our ambitious plans to make cycling safer and easier.

Thanks to the fantastic level of local support for our bid to the Cycle City Ambition Grant, we can start work on making our 12 year cycling strategy – Vélocity 2025 – a reality.

Over the next two years through to 2015, we will use the £20 million government funding to:

  • Develop ‘Cycle and Ride’ stations for Gatley, Irlam, Flixton and Guide Bridge railway stations and at Prestwich, Hollinwood and East Didsbury Metrolink stops.
  • Work with a number of partner schools and colleges to improve cycle facilities to help encourage cycling as a travel choice for younger people.
  • Roll out an ambitious programme of cycling promotion and education inspired by other European cities.

Beyond the two-year government grant, TfGM and the district councils are committed to continuing to deliver the Vélocity 2025 strategy by rolling out further investment in cycling across Greater Manchester over the following decade.

Vélocity 2025

Vélocity 2025 is our vision of a city fit for the future: a healthy, safe, sustainable city that people want to live and work in.

We want to see the proportion of trips by bike increase to 10% of all journeys over the next 12 years, which we believe is achievable alongside additional Government funding.
